The twenties were a time of expansion, as the brothers purchased the Ames property in 1923, in expectation of building a new house. In fact, all E.C. members were required to live in the new house or forfeit their office. Obviously, this did not last long, as Ohio Alpha is in possession of only one house, located at 821South Gilbert Street.
In 1924, Ohio Alpha was incorporated as a holding company, the same year we find the first record of a Fathers Day.
On March 10, 1926, the motion was made “that a Brother be appointed to serve each table at supper, to be charged weekly...and that we wear coats (suits) to supper. It was also moved that fried bologna be eliminated from the dinner meal.” The motion carried.
The Roaring Twenties soon turned into the Age of Prohibition, and Ohio Alpha followed, stating that “Any Brother or pledge bringing liquor into the house--the Dean having actual counseling or notice of such--will be subject to the Paddling Penalty.”
